What kind of projects do civil engineers usually work on?

My cousin is thinking about going to college for civil engineering. To be honest, I am not quite sure what they really do. I know it is a type of engineering, but outside of that, I am fairly clueless on their day-to-day job functions. Do they just design roads or is there more to it? What kind of projects would someone work on in that field? I like to understand things before offering advice, so I am hoping to learn more from people who may know.

Civil engineers wear many hats, that's for sure. Actually, their work encompasses a wide variety of projects. A civil engineer may design, construct, supervise, and maintain infrastructure projects. Should your cousin be looking for a firm, and be located in the Northwest, they could consider Civil Engineers in Skagit County. The work they do can range from roads and bridges to water and sewage systems. The projects could also be large design and construction projects, or smaller renovation projects.
