Hello everyone,
We students at The New School for Social Research are starting a study group for Shaikh's 2016 Capitalism book. We expect to be going through one chapter a month beginning in February 2024, then convene on Zoom to discuss our readings once a month.
This will give us ample time to read and digest the text as closely as we see fit. The book is 17 chapters long, so, if we proceed at this pace, we will make our way fully through the book in about a year and a half. If you miss a month or meeting, this is no problem. You will have ample time to catch up to the rest of the group and rejoin the discussion.
If you are interested please reach out to me at anden216@newschool.edu and I can add you to our participants list. Right now the group only includes graduate students at The New School and the University of Massachussetts Amherst, but we are open to including anyone interested who has studied economics at the graduate level.
Best,
Nick Anderson
This sounds like an amazing initiative. I read parts of Shaikh’s book during my graduate coursework, and it really challenged how I understood mainstream economics. Back then, I was so overwhelmed I even searched take my online class cheap just to keep up. A structured group like this would’ve been a huge help. Best of luck sounds like a great learning experience!
